Helloooo! It's only been 5+ months since I last posted. The last few months were consumed by wedding and work and any time I sat down to write, I was kind of blank. But we'll hopefully be unveiling photos from the wedding soon enough–and I can't wait to tell you all about that marvelous rainy weekend in Sonoma!
Alas, I am here now because of a little design project I took on last week. And as we all know, interior design is my favorite hobby outside of work so when someone needs help, I'm eager to jump on it while reruns of Friends play in the background. So my sister-in-law and brother-in-law recently moved into a beautiful new house that was remodeled right before they bought it, and she asked for some decorating help. I sent her a few images to gauge the style she was looking for, knowing they wanted mostly neutral but with some colorful accents. Overall they were hoping for a design that is comfortable and relaxed–a perfect family home for entertaining. I looked to my favorite designers Studio McGee and Becki Owens for inspiration and these were the favorites:
So I whipped up a budget-friendly design for the three main rooms: family room, dining room, and kitchen, which includes a breakfast nook and kitchen peninsula where counter stools were needed.
Each of the items below are under $500 except for the sofa. Many pieces–including that white side table and brass wall sconces–are under $100! And if you're not a fan of cognac leather (shame on you), you could easily switch out a straight-lined fabric sofa in grey or beige and it would work in the design, as well!
I assume someone else out there is likely in a similar situation–new place, ready to invest in some new pieces that work well together, maybe changing out lighting, or looking for a great new rug. But you're on a budget. So have at it! :) Yes–there are at least three IKEA pieces in the mix. #ikeaforever
